Ghana to Host Major Conference On Investment

The Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), in association with the Government of Ghana and the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, will host the Commonwealth-Ghana Investment Conference in Accra from November 27-29, 2002, at La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

The "Ghana as the Gateway to West Africa" conference will focus on the new economic climate in Ghana and opportunities for the development of private sector capital flows through Ghana into West Africa. President John Agyekum Kufuor will open the event. The conference will bring together potential foreign investors, government ministers and Ghanaian business leaders to explore opportunities in such areas as financial services, mining, infrastructure development, information technology, and agro-industries.

Recent investments have indicated the positive change in the investment climate and have encouraged multinationals, medium and small foreign companies as well as Ghanaian nationals residing overseas to expand their business interests in Ghana.

The Accra event is the next in a series of African investment conferences organised by the CBC and partners, where projects valued at more than $5 billion have been discussed by participants. Recent conferences have been held in Tanzania, Mozambique and Nigeria.

The Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) is dedicated to the promotion of economic growth through international trade and investment. The 54 Commonwealth nations make up 40 percent of the World Trade Organisation and comprise more than 17,000 listed companies. Language, legal and administrative affinities make it one of the most coherent and powerful trading blocs in the world.
