Ghana will not use golden share veto - Jonah

LONDON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The sale of gold mining company Ashanti Goldfields will not be decided by Ghana's government and its "golden share" veto, Sam Jonah, the Chief Executive of Ashanti said on Thursday.

Jonah said he also had no reason to believe Ghana would not support whatever decision Ashanti's board made about a potential takeover of the coompany.

"It isn't the case that the Ghana government is going to make the decision...the golden share will not be used for this purpose," Jonah told Reuters in a telephone interview.

His comments echo those of a Ghana government spokesman who told Reuters on Wednesday the country might not wield its veto in the billion-dollar contest to take over Ashanti.
