Ghana would pursue prudent policy choices

Accra, May 31, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor said on Thursday that the Government was determined to stay the course of difficult but prudent policy choices that have helped Ghana to achieve macro-economic stability.

"We would not change the course", he said, when the Vice President of the World Bank in-charge of Africa Region, Ms Obiageli Ezekwesili, paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu. President Kufuor said Ghana saw it as part of its duty to lead in the eradication of the stagnation and hesitant approach to development in Africa.

The Bank, he said, should therefore continue to rally to the country's support to make this happen and provide inspiration to the rest of the continent.

Ms Ezekwesili observed that Ghana's sound macro-economic management was beginning to show good signs, something, that was making every African proud. "We laud and applaud your leadership."

She pledged the Bank's continued partnership and support for the country's development choices.

Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, the Finance and Economic Planning Minister, and Mr Mart Karlsson, the World Bank's Country Director, were present.
