Two Ghanaian companies were honoured at the recent Worldaware Business Awards in the United Kingdom.
Ceramica Tamakloe of New Town, Accra were the winners of the Grown Agents Foundation Award for Small Businesses, and Tropical Cable and Conductor Limited of Tema, were short-listed for the Shell Award for Sustainable Development.
At a recent meeting with the Managing Directors of the two companies, the British High Commissioner, Dr Rod Pullen, passed on his congratulations for their achievements, stating that they could be justifiably proud of the recognition they had received. He hoped this would be a further springboard to the development and growth of both companies. He looked forward to being able to congratulate other Ghanaian companies after next year's awards.
Commenting on Ceramica Tamakloe, the Worldaware judges said: "(Ceramica Tamakloe) has contributed significantly to the local community. It is now the largest single exporter of ceramic products from Ghana. … We were most impressed with the lead he (Peter Tamakloe) is giving to other Ghanaian industries."
On Tropical Cable and Conductor Ltd they said: "Tony Oteng-Gyasi is to be congratulated for his initiative in grasping a business opportunity and doing so in a way which serves his local community as well as being commercially successful."
The Worldaware Business Awards scheme is open to companies and organisations from throughout the Commonwealth.
Its aims are: to encourage companies to be more aware of the impact their activities can have on social and economic development; to recognise technical, managerial or other initiatives which have made significant contributions to development and are worthy of emulation; and to stimulate increased private investment in enterprises which contribute to social and economic development.
