Ghanaians asked to patronise made in Ghana goods

Tamale Dec. 3, GNA - Professor Saa Dittoh, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), on Thursday observed that until Ghanaians patronised made in Ghana goods, the country would remain in its economic doldrums.

He expressed worry that though cocoa products and other goods were being produced in Ghana, some Ghanaians did not patronise them but instead bought imported goods.

Prof. Dittoh was addressing participants at a day's Globalisation Symposium in Tamale, which was on the theme: "Broadening Understanding of Globalisation and Its Implications".

About 70 participants from the agriculture sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), heads of departments and officials from the UDS, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) attended the programme, which was organised by AcionAid Ghana.

It was aimed at educating participants on the implication of globalisation on agriculture, the environment, education and trade in the Sub Saharan Africa.

Prof. Dittoh appealed to government to support industrialists to produce more made in Ghana products and urged Ghanaians to adopt "Domestication" by buying Ghana made goods.

Mr Habib Mohammed, Programmes Manager, Northern Region East Development Projects (NREDP), said ActionAid would train individuals to enable them to undertake incoming-generating work to improve their lives.

Mr Ernest Debrah, the Northern Regional Minister, in a speech read for him commended ActionAid Ghana for contributing to national development and urged the NGO to continue to work towards improving the lives of the people.
