Former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a firm commitment to enforcing rigorous accountability for public officeholders if he is elected in the upcoming December, 7 elections.

Mahama highlighted the essential role of transparency in governance, declaring that those entrusted with public office must be ready to account for their actions.

Mahama underscored that public office should be about serving the nation, not personal enrichment, warning that any attempts to misuse power would not be tolerated.

“If people want to come into government and make money then we can’t help you, go into the private sector, we will help you set up a cassava processing plant, go and process cassava, employ young people, don’t come and take public office,” Mahama asserted.

Acknowledging the challenges of holding his own party members accountable, Mahama emphasised the importance of such actions to preserve integrity and combat corruption.

“Once you take public office, you must be prepared to be held to account,” he added.
