Goldfields to inject 176 million dollars to expand its operations

Accra, June 1, GNA- Goldfields Ghana Limited is to inject an additional 176 million dollars to expand it's operations in the country, next year, Mr Ian Cockerill, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has announced.

The Company's total investment, presently, stands at 520 million dollars.

Mr Cockerill made this known when he led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, on Friday.

The courtesy call was to introduce the Goldfields new Managing Director, Mr Alan Ashworth, and other members of the Managing Team to the President. The CEO said Ghana was important to the Company and that they were proud of their investment in the country. "We are pleased to have had the opportunity to operate here." President Kufuor lauded the Company for living up to its social responsibility to both the Government and the communities in which, it operates.

He cited its support for the senior national team, the Black Stars and encouraged them to do more. President Kufuor used the occasion to repeat Government's position on ensuring that the Ghanaian becomes more empowered to take stake in the mining sector. The Government, he said has the option to own 20 per cent in mining operations and this he said, it was going to do to strengthen co-operation between the people and companies. 01 June 2007
