Good business leaders must have vision- Panelists

Good business leaders are those with passion to follow through their visions despite the challenges they face along the way, four business executives observed in Accra on Thursday.

Speaking during a panel discussion at the Fifth MTN Business World Executive Breakfast Meeting, they agreed that the ability to have a vision, develop a strategy and an implementation plan to see the idea to fruition were key to developing successful business leaders.

It was on the theme: “Being an Effective Leader in Business”.

The MTN Business World Executive Breakfast meeting provided a networking and matching platform for senior management professionals, entrepreneurs and government officials to meet and deliberate on current business trends and opportunities in Ghana.

Dr. Kofi Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of Progeny Ventures, said while vision would drive the goal, the successful businessman must learn to work with people.

“A good business leader must be magnanimous and must understand the process of creating value,” he said to a pack audience of business executives.

Dr. Amoah said a good leader must be able to identify people who could work with him to achieve his goals, adding that human capital development through training in various forms was critical for the attainment of organisational goals.

Prince Kofi Amoabeng, CEO of UT Bank, said good business leaders must be able to lead people and put in place systems and processes to help in the attainment of goals.

In addition, a good leadership must be able to transform the vision in clear distinct terms while ensuring fairness in all dealings with the staff.

Mr. Michael Ikpoki, CEO of MTN said a good business leader must have a sense of responsibility not just working for shareholder value.

This, he said, could be done by not only replicating what others were already doing but working to be in a class of one’s own.

Mr. Jude Kofi Bucknor, CEO of J. Kofi Bucknor and Associates, said a good leadership must be seen to be innovative. **
