Gov't has supplied over 35,000 metric tonnes of seedlings to farmers – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that his government has supplied over 35,000 metric tonnes of seedlings to farmers to help boost the agricultural sector in the country.

According to him, the 'Planting for Food and Jobs' initiative has so far been able to register about 185,000 farmers although their target is to register about 200,000 farmers on the programme.

Speaking at the media encounter on July 18, 2017, in commemoration of the Akufo-Addo administration’s six months in office, the President believes that “agriculture will provide a majority of the job creation”, therefore urged Ghanaians to pay urgent attention to every stage of farming.

President Akufo-Addo further indicated that government has reduced the prices of fertiliser by 50% to ensure the success of the programme.

His administration has already distributed 80,370 tonnes of fertilizers to farmers in roll of the programme.

"Government is aware of the infestation of the agriculture land, his statistics indicated that it has affected 112,802 hectors of lands so far”, he noted

He said the programme will go a long way in transforming the country’s agriculture sector.
