Head of the Statistical Service Dr Philomena Afua Nyarko has hinted of proceeding on retirement on May 11, 2016 when she turns 60.

“That is government rule,” she told journalists on Wednesday, April 13.

“If you are in public service, when you are 60 years you automatically have to leave.”

It is not yet known who will take over from Dr Nyarko, a trained demographer and statistician.

She joined the Service in 2010 as Deputy Director for Operations.

Until that appointment, she was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana.

She was appointed Acting Government Statistician in January, 2012, when then senior statistician Dr Grace Bediako proceeded on retirement.

Dr Nyarko was later confirmed.

She told journalists after announcing the March inflation of 19.2 per cent that her position would have to be advertised to enable both external and internal potential candidates to apply.
