Yendi (Northern Region) , 5 Sept., The government has released 16 million cedis to the Yendi district assembly as salary advance for the third quarter of 1997. Mr. A. Alhassan Mohammed, Yendi District Coordinating Director who made this known at a meeting of heads of departments. He said the amount which will be allocated to the departments according to staff strength would benefit government workers who are either on transfer, or on leave or those who have either lost a mother or father. He said the central government has also allocated 1.2 billion cedis for recurrent expenditure for the district. The Coordinating Director said Yendi would soon get a 200 capacity telephone exchange. The district has at present 11 direct telephone lines with 50 extensions. Mr. Mohammed advised the heads to make judicious use of funds allocated them to avoid audit queries. The district assembly will sanction any head who misapplies funds. He expressed concern about the lack of supervision by some heads and advised that they should cross-check vouchers and cheques. Mr. Jabo Orondo Abdrahamani, Yendi Postmaster, told the meeting that the Expedited Mail Service (EMS) will soon be introduced in the district to ensure the speedy delivery of mails and parcels.
