The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, says government must reduce spending and put the right policies in place to improve the country’s current economic situation.
He said even though Ghana was going through difficult times, the situation would improve when right measures are implemented by the government. Mr. Benjamin, who was speaking in an interview with BUSINESS GUIDE at his residence in Accra, said Ghana is conducive to foreign investors in spite of economic challenges.
That, he said, was due to the country’s political stability and dynamic private sector that has been collaborating with foreign partners.
At the launch of Zenith Hygiene Systems Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Zenith Hygiene Group Plc, Benjamin said, “It is worth noting that British businesses continue to invest in Ghana, create jobs, transfer technology and also develop the skills of Ghanaians.”
The he noted that bilateral trade between Ghana and the United Kingdom (UK) reached an all time high in recent times, “we have even rekindled efforts to double the figures in the next recent times.”
Mr. Benjamin said the key responsibility of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) is to help Ghanaian companies in Britain to increase their competitiveness through overseas trade in Ghana.
“With efforts towards this, UK remains the largest bi-lateral donor of the country with a programme stretching over 50 years,” he mentioned. He added that Ghana and Britain could work together in areas such as climate change, education and the promotion of leadership and management skills in Ghana through the British Council.
