Accra, Sept. 13, GNA - Government is working out a comprehensive programme to revive the Juapong Textiles Company that was closed down recently due to the inability of VLISCO, its owners to sustain it. Consequently it is working out modalities to bring the Company back to life, probably under a new management and an investor willing to put things back on track.
Briefing journalists at the weekly Meet-The-Press Series in Accra, Mr Allan Kyeremanten, Minister of Trade and Industry, said it was important to see what the former Juapong Textiles could be transformed into to encourage a positive economic outlook for the area. He did not state the extent of discussions but said after the withdrawal of the current owners; "Government is working out a deal to bring back the company and provide a source of livelihood for the Juapong community."
Mr Kyeremanten noted that so far all the over 200 workers had received their severance packages and were quite comfortable with them. "It is now our responsibility as a Government to ensure that the people in Juapong are not only comfortable but are able to secure meaningful employment opportunities for themselves and their children." 13 Sept. 05
