Govt asked to review cumbersome process of clearing goods

Kukurantumi (E/R), Jan. 18, GNA - The Books for African Library, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has appealed to the government to review the cumbersome process, charitable organisations working in Ghana had to endure to clear goods at the ports.

The Executive Director of the NGO, Mr Kirt Bromley made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency, during a reading contest awards ceremony organized by the Koo-Tufou Resource Library at Kukurantumi at the weekend, for school children who patronize the library facility. He said it took his organisation four weeks to obtain a duty waiver to clear consignment of books at the Tema Harbour.

"It costs us so much in time and money to hustle through the officials for the approval of documents."

Mr Bromley said the organization had shipped 40,000 library books meant for Bole; Oyoko; Kpetoe; Amanokrom, Mafi and Medakye communities. He said his outfit also received quantity of medical supplies from its collaborators in the US for the St Joseph's Orthopaedic Hospital, Effiduase Hospital and the Eastern Regional Hospital.
