Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, inaugurated Ghana’s first fleet of electric buses (EVs).
The introduction of the EV buses stems from Dr. Bawumia’s vision to adopt electric vehicles as a cost-saving measure for the transportation sector.
It is also aimed at modernising the country’s public transportation system, therefore, the cost of public transport is expected to be reduced by 40-50%.
Passengers who want to board the buses will pay between GH¢6 and GH¢8 depending on their location.
During the launch of the EV buses, Dr. Bawumia noted that the buses would be deployed on routes like the Oyibi-Accra, Accra-Amasaman, and Ashaiman-Accra routes.
