The Independent Power Generators, Ghana (IPGG), has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize comprehensive reforms in Ghana’s energy sector as he assumes office.

According to the IPGG, the energy sector has been plagued by persistent challenges, including financial sustainability issues, liquidity crises, and gaps in leadership and policy direction, all of which have significantly hampered its efficiency.

In a congratulatory message to the President-elect, the IPGG expressed hope that his leadership would usher in a new era of stability, transparency, and innovation within the energy sector. The group underscored the critical importance of addressing these longstanding issues, which they believe are vital for the country’s overall economic growth and development.

“Your re-election represents a renewed opportunity to confront these challenges with purpose and resolve,” the statement read. “As Independent Power Generators, we are especially hopeful that your leadership will bring about the restoration of stability and the implementation of reforms the sector has long missed.”

The IPGG lauded Mahama’s track record of prioritizing energy infrastructure during his previous tenure, noting that his experience offers a strong foundation for revitalizing the sector. They further pledged their commitment to partnering with the incoming government in finding lasting solutions to these challenges.

Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Chief Executive Officer of IPGG, emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration between stakeholders and government to build a resilient and efficient energy system capable of meeting Ghana’s growing demands. “We believe that through meaningful engagement, strategic planning, and decisive action, we can create a thriving energy sector that powers Ghana’s developmental aspirations,” he stated.

The IPGG’s call comes amidst rising expectations for President-elect Mahama’s administration to deliver bold reforms and restore confidence in the energy sector, which remains a critical driver of national progress.
