IRS to observe Revenue Week

Accra, April 18, GNA - The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has instituted Revenue Week as part of efforts to promote tax consciousness and inculcate the habit of filing of returns among Ghanaian taxpayers during April.

An official statement from the IRS said this year's Revenue Week would be observed from April 25 - May 1.

The theme for the Revenue Week is: "Promoting Tax Consciousness For Accelerated National Development."

Activities planned for the week include the official launch, which would be performed by the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning on April 25.

The launch will be followed by a workshop on completion of Tax Returns during which IRS officers would assist taxpayers to complete tax forms.

A tax seminar on Rights and Responsibilities under the Income Tax Laws is scheduled for April 26.

The statement said officers of the IRS were already in the field assisting several opinion leaders, Chief Directors, traditional rulers and others to complete their individual tax returns up to and including year 2004.

Completed tax returns are expected to be submitted to Internal Revenue Service District Offices throughout the country on Wednesday, 27 April 2005.

"To underscore the premium placed on tax education by the IRS and to ensure that tax information is demystified for the benefit of all, tax education has been planned to take place at several markets on April 28 and 29.

"The Internal Revenue Service is by this news release, appealing to the public to participate fully in the Revenue Week celebrations to promote voluntary tax compliance and move Ghana forward." 18 April 05
