The presidential aspirant for the Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), Alan Kyerematen, has noted that if Ghanaians continue to vote for the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, the country will never get rid of its increasing debt.
According to him, governments that have come and gone have been more fixated on borrowing to finance their consumption instead of production or expansion for the economy.
Speaking at an evening encounter with the Institute of Economic Affairs, Alan said Ghana has been caught in a debt trap that will need some sort of intervention to restructure.
He added that the government has to control expenditure and increase revenue.
“What has happened in this country is that, for several decades, we have been caught in a death trap. We have been borrowing from government to government to finance consumption. It is regrettable that all the debt that we have accrued is to pay salaries and loans. So, it is not possible to grow,” Alan noted.
He added that “that is the problem with NDC and NPP. Both parties run us to the IMF.”
The Afrafanto flagbearer noted that it is prudent to reduce leakages at the ports.
According to him, the amount that is lost at the ports can change the fortunes of the country.
