The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has denied reports of an increment in transport fares.

The Union has asked Ghanaians to ignore such news and treat it with the contempt it deserves.

Samuel Amoah, the Deputy National Public Relations Officer for GPRTU, described the news as false. He explained that although fuel prices have recently seen some upward adjustments, transport fares will remain the same until a decision is reached and communicated to the public.

He entreated the public to disregard such information circulating in both traditional and social media.

Speaking on "Nyankonton Mu Nsem" on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the GPRTU is the mother body authorized to announce an increment in transport fares. Hence, drivers who are engaging in such acts should desist from doing so.

He mentioned that before any increment, the GPRTU would deploy a committee to conduct market surveillance to examine all the factors or components they work with in reaching an agreement to increase fares.

According to him, if it becomes necessary to introduce new fares, they will communicate the same to Ghanaians.
