The Minister-designate for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced his plans to establish an independent value-for-money office to address wasteful spending in Ghana's infrastructure.
He emphasised the importance of reducing waste in addition to focusing on revenue generation.
During his appearance before the Appointments Committee on January 13, 2025, he stated, "Some of the measures we will take on the expenditure side include setting up an independent value-for-money office. This office will work with parliament to establish a limit on government contracts that must undergo independent value-for-money analysis, which will be government-owned. This will mark the beginning of waste reduction."
Dr. Forson expressed his belief that there is waste in the country's budget that benefits only a few individuals.
He highlighted the negative impact of this waste on the nation, leading to fiscal indiscipline, high budget deficits, and ultimately affecting all citizens.
He also stressed the need for support in managing the country's debt levels and reducing wasteful spending.
