Institute of Incorporated Engineers initiates 12 members

Accra, Dec. 6, GNA - Twelve members of the Institute of Incorporated Engineers were at the weekend initiated and charged to apply professionalism to their chosen field. They should also desist from compromising quality standards in their assignments.

Speaking at the first induction ceremony of the Institute in Accra, Mr Stephen Akuoko, a former Managing Director of the Electricity Corporation of Ghana, told the inductees to embrace the value of delivering quality service in a timely and efficient manner and to uphold high quality standards. Mr Akuoko, who is also a professional at the Osaka Energy Consult, called on inductees to eschew laziness and a 'laissez-faire' or 'let them do it' attitude towards work, stressing that the attitude was counter-productive. He expressed disquiet over the negative attitude of some contractors towards jobs they consider as 'government work'. Mr Akuoko told the newly inducted members to be ambitious to deliver quality service.

"You must be an achiever, hardworking and deliver quality services on time in order to maintain your customers and to keep in business the institution you are working for." Mr Akuoko said strict observance of safety regulations was of high essence in the engineering profession. He said the new members needed to update their knowledge by using Information, Communication Technology (ICT) as a tool. Mr Kweku Ofori-Bruku, President of the Institute, cautioned the inductees to resist the temptation to use poor quality materials for the sake of selfishly maximising profit. He called on the new members to be abreast of information and discard obsolete engineering techniques. The newly-inducted members included Mr Adu Ameyaw, Mr David Otoo, Mr Sylverster Sunu, Mr Seth Gorni Adablah, Mr Idrisu Moro and Mr Jacob Essel. The rest were Mr Robert Bekyo, Mr Andrews Amarteifio, Mr Wonderful Wilson, Mr Joseph Henry Acquah and Mr Francis Vandam Agbeteti. 06 Dec. 10
