Kufuor holds discussion with IMF Board

Accra, Feb. 6, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Monday held discussions with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board at the Castle, Osu in Accra.

Mr Tom Scholar, Executive Director, representing the United Kingdom (UK) and leader of the seven-member delegation, said they were in the country to learn more about its development strategy. Ghana with its track record of macro-economic stability and reforms to improve growth and poverty reduction has a lot to teach and share with other countries.

He said for this reason they would as part of their visit meet a cross section of the Ghanaian society, to take questions from the public so as to have a fair idea of what the people think about the Fund. President Kufuor said for five years that his Government had been in power, this was the first time ever the country was receiving such an array of Directors of the Board.

The Executive Board is made up of representatives of the 24 Governments that control the Fund.

President Kufuor said the decision by the delegation not to limit its interaction to only the Government but the people would help the country to have adequate knowledge about the IMF and that would make for stronger relationship.

He said Ghana would want to stay a loyal member of the Fund.
