Commercial drivers at Doctor Mensah in the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti Region have expressed their agreement with the Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam's proposal to introduce road toll taxes.

The Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, announced the reintroduction of road tolls across the country during the mid-year budget review on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, which is set to be implemented in 2025.

The drivers stated that this toll initiative will benefit them in two ways: it will enable the government to construct good roads and facilitate the development of trade.

In an interview with OTEC NEWS reporter Maame Akosuah Gyamfuaa on Sunday, July 24, 2024, they said that when this initiative is implemented, the government should ensure that it addresses traffic issues, as the collection of these taxes often creates significant slowdowns.

Others expressed concerns that some tax collectors often keep a portion of the collected funds for themselves. Therefore, they suggested introducing an electronic payment system to ensure transparent and direct transactions.

They urged the government to invest in road construction and maintenance once the toll initiative is implemented to ensure that the additional revenue is used to improve the road network.
