Kumasi, the country’s second-largest city, will hold an investment promotion roadshow in Accra to promote awareness of investment opportunities in and around the city.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is organising this event with the support of the Regional Partnership to Promote Trade and Investment in sub-Saharan Africa, an initiative funded by the Government of Finland and implemented by the Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI).
The event will be under the auspices of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra, and is free of charge. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is expected to chair the event.
The Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, investment promotion experts and project sponsors will be presenting investment opportunities in and around the city in detail. Speakers will include a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Ghana, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), KPMG, Otumfuo’s Land Secretariat, and MCI.
KMA, working with MCI and with the support of various partners, has undertaken a number of initiatives aimed at creating an enabling environment for business and identifying investment opportunities in Kumasi.
Key amongst these initiatives are the publication of an investor’s guide for Kumasi, the setting up of the Kumasi City Investment Promotion Unit (KCIPU) at the KMA, the creation of a website solely dedicated to the promotion of Kumasi’s investment potential -- www.investinkumasi.com -- and extensive research to identify viable investment opportunities in and around the city.
Investment opportunities have been identified in the areas of real-estate development, agriculture and agri-business, amongst others.
The Investment Roadshow at the Golden Tulip, Accra, is aimed at bringing these investment opportunities to the doorsteps of potential investors from within Ghana as well as from abroad.
Similar investment promotion events have been held in Kumasi, London, New York and Atlanta between 2008 and 2010. The event held in New York in September 2008 resulted in the establishment of a bamboo bicycle factory in Kumasi. The company currently produces completed bicycles and frames for the Ghanaian and European markets.
The investment roadshow will also provide an opportunity for one-on-one interactions with stakeholders from Kumasi. The event will be followed by an optional site visit to Kumasi on October 9, 2013. The event is complementary; however, interested participants are encouraged to register early since seating is limited.
