The National Petroleum Authority and the various bulk Gas Distributors on Saturday March 2, 2013 started distributing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to various depots for retailing.
There was an acute shortage of gas throughout Ghana in the few preceding days. Users of LPG were seen in long queues at retail points attempting to fill their empty cylinders.
A lot of residents in the urban parts of the country largely rely on LPG for cooking.
LPG has therefore enjoyed some fair amount of subsidization in the past.
Some commercial Drivers convert the fuel systems of their cars so that they could take advantage of the heavy subsidization of the product.
The National Petroleum Authority say the recent shortage is as a result of repair works undertaken on supply pipelines.
Its Public Relations Officer Yaro Kasambata told XYZ News the repairs have been completed and assured Ghanaians of normalized supply.
“We should have some improvements in the stock levels across the nation”.
