Labour Commission staff want boss sacked

Workers of the NLC are demanding the immediate removal of Executive Secretary Workers of the NLC are demanding the immediate removal of Executive Secretary

Workers of the National Labour Commission (NLC) are demanding the immediate removal of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Charles Adongo Bawa Duah, in solidarity with what they claim as unlawful termination of appointments of two of their colleagues.

The workers, clad in red and black, locked up the offices of the Commission to back their call.

According to the workers, Mr. Bawa Duah, who was appointed as the Executive Secretary of the NLC in April 2016, has performed abysmally resulting in the poor working conditions at the Commission.

Mr Bawa Duah is also said to have contested the 2016 parliamentary primaries of the ticket of NDC and lost and, according to the workers, public office holders are required to resign their positions venturing into partisan politics but Mr Bawa Duah infringed that constitutional requirement.

Briefing The Finder on the matter, Eric Omane Yeboah, a Senior Industrial Relations Officer said the two workers, who were posted to Takoradi, made efforts to relocate only to be faced with accommodation problems as well school admission for their wards.

He said the commission also refused to provide them with their transfer grants and all efforts to have the matter resolved proved futile.

Mr Yeboah bemoaned that the NLC, mandated to resolve disputes between in organisations is, ironically, going through a lot of challenges since Mr Bawa Duah assumed office in 2016.

That, he explained is due the bad influence the current Board Chairman of the Commission Mr Kweku Briku Boadu has been to Mr Bawaduah.

He said the local Union of the Commission petitioned his appointment his Chairmanship but nothing came out of that, however, has rather targeted the individuals who championed the petition including the two workers whose appointments have been terminated.

Incidentally, Mr Bawa Duah could not be reached for his side of the story

Meanwhile, the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has indicated that his outfit will investigate demands from workers.

It follows an official complaint from the workers and defence by the management
