The Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will hold its 123rd press conference later on Friday, March 28, 2025, to announce major decisions taken during the sitting, which started on Monday, March 23, 2025.
The press conference will be chaired by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama.
During the opening of the MPC sitting on Monday, Dr Asiama said, among other things, that the external environment, though currently supportive, is becoming increasingly volatile.
He observed that there is a strong trade surplus and solid reserve build-up on the back of gold exports and remittance flows.
But, he said, a possible escalation in global tariff wars, rising geopolitical tensions, and weakening Chinese demand could quickly shift the dynamics.
For over two years, Ghana’s inflation has hovered in the low twenties, recording 23.2% in 2023 and 23.8% in 2024, with the latest rate standing at 23.1% as of February 2025.
The big question still remains; Will the central bank maintain its stance on the 27 percent as many industry players are calling for, or would there be a drop or a surprise increase in the policy rate?
