President of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has lauded telecommunications company, MTN for promoting mobile money businesses in the country.

Delivering his remarks at the "5th Annual Today Lectures" at the Coconut Grove hotel, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom asserted that MTN’s persistent media campaign on its mobile money services has made it a dominant figure in that business venture.

He added that MTN’s contributions to mobile money services in Ghana cannot be downplayed since it is a giant in that field.

“MTN has done a very good job in Ghana popularizing the use of mobile money. And it is to their credit that they have done so, and as a result [they] have become dominant. There is nothing anyone can do or say to diminish the contribution that they have made,” he said.

The 5th Annual Today Lecture series themed ‘Mobile Money economy: Challenges and Prospects’, featured presentations on topics such as the socio-economic impact of mobile money in Ghana, preference of mobile money to traditional bank transactions as well as managing the risk of fraud in mobile money.

Key personalities present at the event included former NHIA boss, Sylvester Mensah, Senior Manager at MTN, Godwin Kwami Tamakloe, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at GN Money, Samuel Ampah as well as E-Channels Support Manager at National Investment Bank, Yaw Dabanka.

The annual Today newspaper lecture series, launched in 2014, is an event set up by the Today Newspaper to brainstorm on some topical issues that are relevant to the growth of Ghana’s democratic governance.
