MTN Ghana foundation has cut sod for the commencement of a 220 capacity library and ICT center project for the New Juaben Senior High School (NJUASCO) in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The project is estimated at a cost of GHS 602,150 and comprises of 200 seater library, 20 seater ICT center and furniture supply for the library and the ICT center.

The project is expected to be completed in six months and likely to benefit more than 2,124 students of the institution as well as teachers and other staff.

Speaking at the ceremony before the sod cutting, the Ag. Corporate Services Executive at MTN, Mr. Samuel Koranteng said his outfit believed that an integrated library made up of hard and ICT area was a source of providing comprehensive information needed by students to positively influence academic performance.

He acknowledged the fact that the project when completed will provide students with secured and conducive learning environment and give access to relevant information and encourage the learning of ICT.

Mr Koranteng said the sod cutting for the library also happens to be one of the activities to mark the 10th anniversary celebration of MTN Ghana foundation. The theme for the celebration he said was,’ celebrating ten years of brightening lives, inspiring a brighter future’’.

He said MTN Foundation has implemented over 142 projects all at a cost of over USD $13.3 million in the areas of health, education and economic empowerment since the inception of the foundation.

‘He said MTN Ghana Foundation will continue to impart lives positively as well as provide tailor made solutions that meet the needs of communities. The headmaster of the school, Mr Frank Obeng Wilson, said the current student population stood at 2,176, however the school cannot boost of a befitting library to accommodate all students.

“The current place being use for library which as well serves as the store keeper can accommodate 40 to 50 students” he said.

He was hopeful that the library project will help improve academic work of students and help the teachers to acquire relevant information to enhance teaching in the school.

Mr Felix Koranteng, a representative from the Regional Education directorate thanked MTN for their kind gesture and appealed to the company to extend their kindness to the other 105 Senior High Schools in the region, because most of them lack such learning facilities.
