Takoradi, June 28, GNA-Ms Mawuena Dumor, Corporate Services Executive of the Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) on Wednesday said the company has invested about 150 million dollars into the upgrading of the Areeba network brand since acquiring Scancom, the former owners of the network, in 2006.
Speaking at a one-day seminar organised by MTN for media personnel in Takoradi, she said the upgrading would make it possible for the company to provide services to about 20 million subscribers. Mrs Dumor said the company now has almost three million subscribers as at the end of the first quarter of this year. She said the company has 44 million subscribers globally and operates in 21 countries in West, Central, South and Eastern Africa, Middle East and Northern Asia.
Ms Dumor said the company, which was established in 1993 in South Africa has a vision of becoming the leader in emerging markets and committed to bringing world class telecommunication to Ghana. She said the Areeba brand would be re-banded after the company has sufficiently enhanced the quality of the network and has built and sustained relationships in the country.
Ms Dumor said the company has the financial strength to contribute towards the advancement of telecommunication technology in the country and would offer wide range of telecom services including telephone banking.
She said the key focus areas of the company in community social responsibility are education, health, economic empowerment, music, art and culture. 28 June 07
