MTN launches foundation

Sunyani, Dec. 3, GNA - Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has called on the Management of the Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) to ensure a sound, quality and effective communication delivery.

He said though MTN was doing its best to enhance the country's communication system, there was the need to ensure affordable prices of its products to benefit the ordinary Ghanaian even in the midst of intense competition.

Mr. Baffour-Awuah was speaking at the launch of MTN Ghana Foundation, a body responsible for managing and directing the social investment programmes of the network in Ghana. He said the MTN Foundation would not only promote socio-economic development but also ensure a peaceful and harmonious environment among people at national, continental and wider international levels and across different cultures.

Mr. George Andah, Chief Marketing Officer-MTN Ghana, said MTN group mandated each operating unit to devote one percent profit after tax to corporate social responsibility initiatives. The foundation has a separate Board of Directors made up of eminent citizens. Mr. Andah said foundation intended to focus on health and education and work closely on projects and programmes with communities and relevant agencies. 03 Dec 07
