MTN records GH¢ 18.5m monthly on mobile money

Telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana Limited, records GH¢ 18.5 million transactions on its flagship mobile money services every month across the country.

The mobile money service, which was introduced in 2009 onto the Ghanaian market, had since registered 4. 8 million customers with 19,500 merchants across the country.

The service, which was initially offering few services such as money transfer and airtime top up, is currently offering wide range of services including, the payment of utility and DSTV bills, school fees and bulk payment, whilst partner institutions such as Lyca, World Remit and Xpress Money help customers receive money from relatives in abroad instantly on their mobile phones.

The Acting Western Regional Senior Manager of MTN, Mr. Laud Nii Ayi Armah, who is in charge of South West Business Office, made this known during the launch of MTN Mobile Money for the month of August, in Takoradi.

It aimed at whipping up interest of the public, to register with the service to enhance the performance of businesses.

The launch was preceded by a two-hour health walk through some principal streets of Takoradi by members of some keep-fit clubs in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.

The theme for the campaign was: “Mobile Money, Driving Financial Inclusion in Ghana”, aimed at delivering financial services at affordable costs to all segments of Ghanaian society.

Mr. Armah said MTN would hold a stakeholders’ forum on Wednesday, August 12, to deliberate on fraud awareness and training for the merchants, and also undertake market activation and small scale enterprises drive.

Dr. Dan Anane Frimpong, Senior Medical Officer at the Kwesimintsim Hospital, advised Ghanaians to take proper care of their diet to avoid contracting diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

He said chronic high level of sugar in the blood could result in multiple ailments and affects one’s vital organs such as the kidney, eyes, heart and intestines, that may result in stomach ulcers, blindness and kidney failure, as well as other health complications.

He urged Ghanaians to eat balanced diet at the right time during the day and sleep properly to ensure adequate relaxation for the body.
