MTN to invest GHC311 million in projects

Mr Serame Taukobang, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, says the organization has earmarked GHC311 million to upgrade and extend its facilities this year.

Speaking during its annual editors’ forum, Mr Taukobang said MTN hoped to add this year 120 new 3G sites in addition to the 173 sites it developed in 2013.

He said there had been an extensive national fibre and microwave network with the deployment of 400km of fibre, explaining that such deployment would help increase access to network capacity and also increase subscriber base throughout the country.

He said for very GHC1 spent by a customer, a total of 34.5% of it goes into the payment of taxes such as the Value Added Tax, income tax and other forms of taxes.

He lauded MTN Ghana Foundation for its numerous corporate social responsibilities which had seen it transforming communities across the country.

“Among our quest to transform the society is also our ‘MTN Heroes of Change’ programme aimed at rewarding ordinary people who have played significant roles in transforming lives and communities”, he said.

Mr Taukbang said MTN Ghana controlled 45.63% of the market leadership as well as 54.21% of data leadership among telecommunication companies in the country.

He said MTN would continue to educate and train customers by developing innovative programmes that would ensure that customers understood the works of the company.

Mr kabral Blay-Amihere, Chairman, National Media Commission, appealed to MTN Ghana to listen and address the complaints of their customers.

He said although the company had its own challenges, it had been able to achieve a lot since it started its operations in the country 20 years ago.

He lauded the company for its partnership with the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Awards and urged them to continue to support the media.

Mr Affail Monney, President, GJA also reiterated the call on MTN Ghana to assist the media fraternity and other media development programmes.
