Malta deepens economic cooperation with Ghana

The Maltese Minister of Economy, Investment and Small Businesses, Honourable Silvio Schembri,says his country’s decision to sign separate memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with key Ghanaian institutions will help provide broader partnerships for mutual benefits and deepen trade facilitation between both countries.

The agreements are expected to enable Ghanaian businesses gain access to the European market using Malta as the gateway.In an exclusive interview with Diplomatic Affairs, the Maltese Minister of Economy, Investment and Small Businesses said his Country “We are facilitating opportunities for Ghana and Malta through our high commissions and other national partners,” he added.

The Government of Malta is strongly expecting to take advantage of Ghana’s membership of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, beginning from July this year, to begin and deepen trade ties with other countries in the sub-region.

Among other things, he also commended Ghana for steps taken to strengthen anti-corruption institutions to enhance the general well-being of the Citizens. At the Second Ghana-Malta Business Forum held in Accra, five agreements were signed by institutions in both countries.

The Ghana Standards Authority signed two agreements with Malta Medicines Authority and Aquabiotics, a Maltese firm that specializes in aquaculture production. Accra Technical University (ATU) signed with Malta College for Arts, Science, and Technology, while Impact Hub signed with Malta Enterprise.
