Metro Mass Transit to double fleet of buses

The Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMT) will operate fully in all the 10 regions of the country by the end of the year, the deputy minister for roads and transports, Magnus Opare Asamoah, has said.

The MMT buses currently operate in seven regions excluding the Volta, Upper East and Upper West regions.

The deputy minister, who was speaking in Accra last Saturday at the launch of a city bus system by the MMT, said that company?s current fleet of 506 buses would be increased to 1,000 by the end of the year.

Apart from the launch, at which 30 DAF Neoplan buses were delivered to the company, the occasion was also used to launch a pilot MMT route from Adenta to Tetteh Quarshie Inter-change and from Adenta and Tetteh Quarshie Inter-change to Kinbu.

Mr Opare further announced that to ensure maximum efficiency and transparency in the collection of fares, tickets would be sold at designated bus stops but not by the conductors as is the case now.

The 30 new buses will ply the pilot routes at 15 minutes interval to ease the problem of passengers having to wait for long to catch busses.
