Metro Mass gets new board soon

The Ministry of Transport is expected to announce a new board for the Metro Mass Transit Limited, likely this week.

It will mean the company will not miss out on procuring 100 buses it intends adding to its fleet.

The absence of a board stalled the procurement process for the past few weeks.

The old board was dissolved by President John Mahama on January 15, 2015 following a demonstration by workers of the company against the former Board Chair and Deputy Managing Director.

Aggrieved workers agitated over missing buses of the company, which they suspected some of the board members and those in management conspired to rob from the company.

Deputy Transport Minister Joyce Bawa-Mogtari has told Starr Business that consultations are currently ongoing to reconstitute a new board for the company.

“On the ministers instruction, we have actually asked all the institutional heads to bring names of their representatives, so I believe as soon as possible that board will be reconstituted and sworn into office to continue with their duty and obligation to the Metro Mass Transit limited”, she said.

She added that as soon as they are furnished with the names, the board will be constituted to see to the running of the MMT.
