Micro-finance Company defrauds clients

Some customers of Royal Winners Micro-Finance Company at Nsuta, Ashanti Region, have reported of being defrauded by the company of thousands of cedis.

Some of the customers, narrating their stories to the press, said between 2012 and 2013, they deposited various sums of money with the company.

They said in September and October last year, they went to the company’s office at Nsuta to withdraw part of their money only to find the office closed and had since not been opened.

The customers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they could not contact any of the staff members as they had switched off their mobile phones. They said they had deposited monies ranging from 400 to 8,000 Ghana cedis each in their accounts.

ASP Asamoah Agyekum, Nsuta District Police Commander, confirmed the story but explained that only two people have lodged a complaint with the police.

He said one person had 2,000 Ghana cedis while the other had 1,400 Ghana cedis in his account. ASP Agyekum said two of the company’s staff were assisting the police in their investigations and appealed to the victims to come forward.
