Mr Ivan Lumala, Technology Officer Microsoft 4AfriKa Initiative, has said investing in Mobile Application development in Africa should not be seen as a waste of money, but a platform that would improve growth in businesses.
He said awareness on Mobile Application needs to be extended to business owners for them to know the usefulness of the Application in the development of their business.
Mr Lumala was speaking at the 7th MTN-Business World Executive Breakfast Meeting on the theme: “The Mobile Apps Revolution: How Ghanaian Businesses can take advantage” in Accra, on Tuesday.
He said the continent is abound with technical ideas, which needs to be encouraged, adding that their knowledge in the mobile Apps would help the growth of the local business.
“Only 10 percent of the population of Africans uses smart phones in their day to day activities,” he said.
Mr John Totoe, Managing Director of Mobile Content.com said mobile phones are going to be more important in the delivery of goods and services on the continent.
He said Mobile application development offers a platform for businesses to reach their target audiences in a “quick few seconds whilst on the go.”
Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Corporate Service Executive of MTN said the company would launch a mobile App competition to give developers the opportunity to showcase their innovation to the world.
