Fiema (Brong Ahafo), 24 Oct. The Global Environment Facility (GEF), a UNDP project, is financing the construction of a shrine for the "Daworo" fetish at Fiema in the Nkoranza district at a cost of about 23 million cedis. The presence of monkeys in the Boabeng-Fiema monkey sanctuary are associated with the existence and origin of the Daworo and Abuja fetish in the area. Disclosing this to the GNA at Fiema, the Assemblyman for the area, Mr Edward Opoku said the shrine which is at the roofing stage comprises accommodation facilities for the fetish priest and the gods. He said when the building is completed it will serve as a tourist attraction adding that a variety of trees such as mangoes, cashew, oil palm and lucena had been planted in the forest to feed the animals. He commended GEF for funding a number of development projects in the area to boost tourism.
