NEPAD to provide the impetus for development- Dr Apraku

Ho, Aug.18, GNA- The Minister for Regional Cooperation and New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku on Wednesday called on African leaders to provide the impetus for making NEPAD and other continental initiatives succeed.

"We can change the future if things failed in the past," he said when he launched a 159-page book entitled: "Visions Of A Better Tomorrow: NEPAD, Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Union (AU)", in Ho.

Dr Apraku, who is also the Chairman of the AU Council of Ministers, said this was not the time for Africans to find scape-goats for the continent's past failures.

"Now is the time to get to the basics and start the process for qualitative change."

Dr Apraku said African leaders pioneered NEPAD as a bench mark for addressing the mistakes of the past.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Owusu-Yeboa who presided over the function, said it was imperative for the citizenry to embrace NEPAD since it was a Pan-African initiative that sought to promote growth and generate wealth, through an enabling political environment.

The Ho District Chief Executive, Mr Mawutor Goh, pledged the commitment of the District Assembly to make NEPAD a success.
