The National Identification Authority has called out banks who are in the habit of rejecting the Ghana Card to desist from such act.

The Corporate Affairs Manager of the NIA, Assistant Controller of Immigration (ACI), Francis Palmdeti stated that the authority has engaged the Bank of Ghana to advice the various institutions to heed to their warnings by accepting the Ghana Card for all forms of transactions.

“The card became valid right from the day it was administered to eligible Ghanaians, hence failure to accept it means floating the regulations,” he said.

According to NIA, the Ghana card is a valid form of identification for eligible Ghanaians.

The National Identity Regulation of 2012, LI 2111 Regulation (7) makes the card mandatory and acceptable for transactions which includes banking. Every institution in the country is required to accept the Ghana card as an official identification card.

The Ghana Card can be used as proof of citizenship, identification and also doubles as an ECOWAS Card to be used in member states on the continent.

In an interview with Daily Graphic, Mr Palmdeti noted that “the NIA is on course with developing a new verification modulus, which will soon be in operation. When this is done, institutions like banks and others will be brought to speed”.
