NIB staff in court over c27m theft

An employee of the National Investment Bank (NIB) who has siphoned c27m from the bank over the past two years has been charged with stealing.

George Antwi, a clerk at the bank, is also facing additional charges of forging the names of people including the NIB secretary. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was granted a c40m bail.

The prosecution submitted that between 1992 and 1994, George Antwi diverted dividends payable to shareholders. It was added that he also paid dividends to fictitious shareholders through which he obtained an amount of c27,100,320 which was lodged in different bank accounts he opened.
