The Executive Director of MMG Consortium Limited, Dr. Iddrisu Abdul-Majeed says the Nana Addo-led government deserves commendation for making giant strides in the telecommunication industry.
“Ghana’s telecom sector has huge market potentials. In 2018 for instance, the market leader MTN Ghana made total revenue of GHc 4.2 billion (approximately $ 900 million), made total profit of GHc 1 billion (approximately $200 million) and paid corporate tax of GH¢1.5 billion to government (approximately $300 million).”
“Per the IMF growth forecast for 2019, Ghana’s economy is expected to be the fastest growing economy in the world with a projected growth of close to 8.8%. This means that the Ghanaian economy under the leadership of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana is moving in the right direction and the time to come and invest in Ghana is now “I mean now.”
He has, therefore, reiterated the need for international investors to take advantage of the flourishing telecommunication industry and invest in that sector.
This, in his estimation, could create enough jobs to reduce the nation’s unemployment rate.
Dr. Iddrisu Abdul-Majeed addressed business moguls in Amsterdam where he presented a Business Research Paper christened, “Service Quality and Competitive Advantage in Ghana’s Telecommunications Industry, Evidence of MTN Ghana.”
The International Conference was on Research in Business, Management and Finance and the main objective of his presentation was to assess service quality as a means of achieving competitive advantage in Ghana’s telecom sector.
According to Dr. Majeed, findings from his recent study shared with University Professors, Policy Makers, Investors, Consultants, Businessmen, Researchers and Students from all over the world revealed that there is a relationship between Service Quality and Competitive Advantage.
“The statistical implications of these findings are that if MTN decides to increase its activities on Network Quality and Reliability of Service, MTN market share and profitability will be increased."
“If the other operators decide to increase their activities on network quality and reliability of service their market share and profitability will be increased,” he projected.
Prior to Joining the MMG Consortium, Dr. Majeed has spent the past 14 years working in Ghana’s Telecommunication Industry.
He has worked with Ghana Telecom Ltd, Vodafone Ghana and Glo Mobile Ghana.
He is a product of Ghana Secondary School, Tamale. He holds Diploma in Marketing from Sunyani Technical University, Bachelor of Management Studies from University of Cape Coast, Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Doctor of Management (DBA) from Swiss Management Centre University- Switzerland.
