Accra, Nov. 20, GNA - The National Pensioners Association on Thursday elected a new national executive to manage the affairs of the Association for the next four years.
Mr Tawiah Yomoson was elected National President, while Mr S.A. Sesi was elected Vice-president, with Mr Edward Ameyibor as General Secretary, and Mr Stephen Boakye, Assistant Secretary. The position of the National Treasurer was taken by Mr J. N.A. Bulley, while Mrs Janet Amerley Esseku was elected as Women's Organiser. Mr Richard Nii Aryerttey, Senior Industrial Relations Officer at the 3rd National Delegates' conference in Accra, urged the new officers to work hard towards ensuring unity among its membership. He further charged the elected officers as well as ordinary members to raise their voices so as to win public support and compel the government to come to their aid as and when necessary. The Association's Resolutions Committee also passed its report, which included a mandated request by the National Secretariat to the Education Committee to circularise important decisions to reach both Regional and District Associations by way of sending leaflets and notices.
It resolved that a special committee be appointed to immediately review, amend where necessary or add to the bridge in the gaps that had prevented the Association from progressing 16 years after its establishment. The National Secretariat also advised the SSNIT management to allow the Managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to accept the SSNIT Pension Payment Advice Slips and the Association's Membership Identity cards to register members of the scheme. It argued that since it took between three and six months before the updated list from SSNIT management reached the NHIS head office, it was required that members were recognised with such IDs.
