Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications, has said the Government would step up its role as a leading facilitator of telecommunication services delivery.
"If the golden age of business is to succeed, then there is the need not just for the introduction of sound economic policies, but also for the radical transformation of the telecommunications landscape."
These were contained in a speech read for him by the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mahami Salifu at the inauguration of a 768-line telephone exchange at Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana District. The Alcatel E10 Remote Line Unit (RLU) with expandable capacity of 2,000 lines, would link Navrongo, Nakon and Kayoro in the District. Nangodi and Tongo in the newly created Talensi-Nabdam District and Kanjarga in the Builsa District would also be connected to the system by radio.
Mr Kan-Dapaah underscored the need to make telecommunication services available to more people so that they could take advantage of today's knowledge-based information to turn around the fortunes of the country.
