Nestle Ghana Limited has launched a nationwide campaign to fight under-nutrition in children and stunting.

It involves visiting schools and the communities to educate the people, especially mothers on good nutrition.

Mr. Edwin Amoako, the Marketing Manager (Dairy), said the goal was to ensure the growth and development of children.

He was speaking at a “Nestle Nido Nutrition Day” held at the Weweso M/A Basic School in Kumasi.

The programme, which formed part of the campaign, and organized under the supervision of the School Health Education Programme (SHEP), coincided with the 60th anniversary celebration of the food and nutrition company.

It was used to highlight the importance of eating and feeding children on healthy foods.

Mr. Amoako said it should not lose anybody the nexus between healthy growth of the child and good nutrition.

He encouraged the people to increasingly consume “Nido”, a product of the company, enriched with vitamin “C” and iron – micronutrients vital for the growth of children.

He added that this was even more necessary against the background of the World Health Organization (WHO) report that said, in excess of 70 per cent of school-going age children in Ghana were suffering from iron deficiency.

He said they were eager to support more children to lead healthier lives, provide them with nutritional products and deepen the education and interaction with mothers.

As part of the programme they distributed books and other learning materials to the pupils and Nestle products, branded mugs and ‘T-shirts’ to parents.

The parents also had the chance to win GH?500.00 cash reward to pay for the children’s education by participating in a nutrition quiz competition.
