New Ghanaian Rice Launched

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has introduced a new variety rice onto the Ghanaian market, which it says will end or at least drastically reduce the country’s dependence on imported rice. The rice known as ‘Afife’ rice is being produced by a consortium of Ghanaian enterprises including farming co-operatives, licensed warehouse operators and marketers. Agriculture Minister, Courage Quashigah formally launched the product in Accra this afternoon.

The Ministry has credited Major Quashigah with what it describes as a breakthrough in the production of the rice, largely brought about as a result of his good planning and management techniques. The rice is comparable to other imported rice being sold on the Ghanaian market and is cheaper.
