We recognize that building a private business in Ghana is like running up a hill backwards and so for those of you who have survived, you definitely need to be celebrated.”
The 16 edition of Ghana Club 100 awards was under the theme, ‘Industrialization – A Tool for Job Creation and Accelerated Economic Development’, agrees with government’s vision to capitalize on industrialization through projects such as the one district, one factory project to facilitate job creation and economic growth.
Standing in for the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as keynote speaker, Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo speaking on the theme noted that growing the private sector being one of the government’s major priorities was a way of speeding up development in the country adding that governments main focus in accelerating economic growth is based on four thematic areas namely, Macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability, infrastructural development, accelerated industrial development and agricultural transformation.
He charged all companies within the top hundred to assist government to achieve its goal of creating employment, and increase the nation’s income level.
“The type of visitors our president is getting these days is a clear manifestation that times are changing and changing well for this economy of ours. But no matter how much people favor us, we need players to make it work to benefit from all this good will, we need captains of industry to make use of this good will to develop this county. That is why I am personally interested in the top 100 companies in this country," he mentioned.
“You have a responsibility to help us develop this economy, to help us generate employment to move Ghana from a lower middle-income country to proper middle income country and then become a developed country in the final analysis. I am happy that we are celebrating the best of the best,” he added.
The GIPC used the awards programme to encourage partnerships between Ghanaian entrepreneurs and their foreign colleagues.
