National Democratic Congress (NDC) Running Mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has pledged that the next NDC government will implement sustainable policies to combat illegal mining (galamsey) while protecting the country’s water bodies.

During her tour of Amenfi Central in the Western Region, she criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for failing to safeguard the nation's rivers from the destruction caused by illegal mining.

She assured that an NDC government would promote responsible mining practices, creating jobs for the youth in affected areas without harming the environment.

In her address, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlined the NDC’s ambitious plans for the future, including the launch of a 24-hour economy program and the establishment of a women's development bank to provide accessible loans to women.

She stressed that these initiatives would greatly benefit Ghanaians but emphasized that their success depends on electing NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, in the upcoming general elections.

On the issue of illegal mining, a pressing concern due to its environmental damage, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed John Mahama’s commitment to tackling galamsey through technological innovation.

She detailed plans to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to identify small-scale mining activities, monitor excavators, and establish geo-fences around mining concessions to prevent unauthorized operations, particularly in water bodies.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged Ghanaians not to lose hope amid the current economic challenges, urging them to unite and "drive the elephant back into the bush" to restore Ghana to its rightful path.

She also called on all Ghanaians to vote massively for John Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections.

Hundreds of supporters, including chiefs, braved the rain to welcome Prof. Opoku-Agyemang and her team on the second day of her Western Region tour. The iconic NDC umbrella became a symbolic shield as the crowd stood in the rain for hours, eager to hear the "Resetting Ghana" message from the party’s 2024 manifesto.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed deep gratitude to the chiefs and people of Amenfi East for their unwavering support.
