OLAM hosts national best cocoa farmers in London

OLAM Europe Ltd on Wednesday, 10th October hosted a team of 2017 National Best Cocoa Farmers in London where a presentation on the activities and structure of OLAM was presented to the farmers.

There was a productive interactive session between the national best cocoa farmers and officials of the company where the officials learnt from the farmers what they did differently from other cocoa farmers to emerge as national best cocoa farmers.

The farmers revealed that they observed Good Agronomic Practices ( GAP) such as pruning, correct application of chemicals and fertilizers, regular harvesting of ripe pods , artificial pollination and cordial relationship between them and the Cocoa Health and Extension agents in their communities as some the measures put in place to deserve the awards.

The OLAM officials who interacted with the farmers include Mr Jim Green, Director, OLAM Europe Ltd., Mr. T J Vignesh, Senior Trader, Mr Karan Dogra, vice president, Business Development, Mr. Manoj Vashista, vice president, OLAM cocoa and Mr Alistair Davies, Deputy Head, Cocoa Sustainability. The farmers will be visiting other places including Cadbury in Birmingham, Ghana High Commission to interact with the mission officials and interesting sights.

Other members accompanying the farmers include Nana Johnson Mensah, Nana Obeng Akrofi both farmers representatives on the Board of directors of COCOBOD, Mr Barnett Quaicoo, Manager, Ghana Cocoa Marketing Company (UK) Ltd and Mrs Akua Opoku Kyei, Administrative Officer, CMC( UK)Ltd.
